The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) was back in Anaheim, CA for the first time in promotional history last Saturday (July 29, 2017) using UFC 214: Cormier vs. Jones II. It was a fun night of action that saw half the bouts end inside the space, and with the scraps today in our rear perspective, let’s look at that of the evening’s opponents we may no longer see heading to work within the Octagon…
ON THE CHOPPING BLOCK
A decision dropped to Aleksandra Albu at a very entertaining scrap. She is currently on a three-fight losing streak inside the Octagon, falling to 1-5 at the UFC. After the defeat, despite putting up a solid hard work and winning the next and last round of the fight, I think there is a good likelihood that the advertising releases her from her contract, considering I thought she would surely get released after her previous defeat. Right now, she is in what we call”Jessica Eye territory,” so it would not be a shock to see her receive a last chance for a third time.
Burkman was knocked out in the first round of the bout against Colorado’s Drew Dober. The reduction puts him onto a four-fight losing streak from the UFC, the last two of which have come by first-round finish. He retired after his previous loss, which was a first-round, north-south choke entry against Michel Prazeres, leaving his gloves in the Octagon. However he changed his mind and returned for the Dober bout. Whether he retires for good or not, I think it’s reasonable to say that we have seen the last of Burkman within the Octagon, and that I don’t expect to see the The Ultimate Fighter 2 veteran returning for a third stint with the promotion.
